Sonopulse Description

Sonopulse 1.0 MHz and 3.0 MHz is a microcontrolled unit and it is in accordance  with technical standards for the construction of medical equipment (NBR IEC 60601-1 and NBR IEC 60601-2-5).

It was developed for therapy with ultrasound frequencies of 1.0 MHz and 3.0 MHz; it acts in filds: the inflammatory rheumatic disorders, inflammatory diseases of the peripheral nervous system, traumatic disorders, peripheral circulatory disorders, inflammatory diseases of the skin surface areas, degenerative changes in the skeleton, particularly the spine, contractions, periarthritis, cellulitis, etc.. Of modern design, the case of the device has an inclined  front panel that enables the therapist to easily adjust necessary parameters to treatment.

The equipment allows the choice of frequency of ultrasound emission, or you can choose  ultrasound of 1.0 MHz or 3.0 MHz . It  permits even to choose ERA (effective area of radiation) at 3.5 or 1.0 cm ² cm ², that is, the unit allows you to select the  transducer of 1.0 MHz with ERA of 3.5 cm ², 1.0 MHz transducer with ERA of 1.0 cm ² or 3.0 MHz transducer with ERA of 3.5 cm ². The average output power of ultrasonic waves is 7 W when ERA of 3.5 cm ² and 2 W is used,  when used ERA of 1.0 cm ², so the average maximum intensity is 2 W / cm ². You can also choose the mode of emission of ultrasound in continuous or pulsed. The pulsed mode has the pulse repetition frequency of 100Hz, 48Hz and 16Hz with pulse rate of 1/2 (50%), 1/5 (20%) and 1/10 (10%). Sonopulse 1.0 MHz and 3.0 MHz and it also has a button called "PROGRAM" which lets you choose several ready-treatment programs (written in the memory of the device). When the program is over, a beep sound is emitted and the emission of ultrasound is interrupted. All functions such as Timer (application time), mode of emission, ERA (effective area of ultrasound radiation) and intensity (W / cm ²) are programmed by touching the keyboard and displayed on the alphanumeric LCD.

As it can be already seen, this machine uses microcomputer technology, and it has certain features that ensure accuracy and safety of operation:

Within the transducer there is a 3.5 cm temperature sensor that will be checking and maintaining constant working temperature of the piezo electric crystal and consequently of the aluminum face of the transducer, avoiding to the patient that disagreable sensation of excessive heat. This sensor is programmed so that the temperature in the aluminum never exceeds 41 ° (degrees centigrade). During the treatment, especially when the coupling gel used is not of good quality, the temperature may exceed 41 ° (degrees centigrade). When this happens, Sonopulse 1.0 MHz and 3.0 MHz stops and to "freezes" the time set on the timer , turning off the ultrasound emission. The therapist has to continue "passing" the transducer as if nothing happened, because after a few seconds the temperature will be back to normal. The device automatically returns to the  original schedule.

Example: Supposing  that an intensity of 0.4 W / cm ² with exposure time of 10 minutes was scheduled. 4 minutes after the treatment the TEMP. function will arrive, because the temperature surpassed 41 ° (degrees centigrade). The timer of Sonopulse 1.0 MHz and 3.0 MHz is regressive and therefore at this moment it is "frozen" and indicating six minutes. The stops to indicate 0.4 W / cm ² and will indicate 0.0 W / cm ² because ultrasound is not being emitted. The therapist  must continue the treatment, because after a few seconds the temperature will be back to normal and the equipment will automatically indicate the programmed intensity 0.4 W / cm ² retaking the  remaining time missed (6 minutes).

Note: It is common to test the unit by  putting  a few drops of water on the aluminum face of the transducer to see the effect of nebulization (cavitation of the water). The means of driving the ultrasound emitted at the moment (drops of water + air) is very poor. This will cause a rapid rise in temperature to 40 ° (degrees centigrade). The TEMP function comes into action and cuts the emission of ultrasound avoiding damage to the piezo electric crystal placed inside the transducer.

Sonopulse 1.0 MHz and 3.0 MHz is a monophasic equipment designed to be used in continuous mode of operation, with some Class II Type BF Applied for security and protection against electric shock. The equipment is protected against dripping water (classification IPX1). It is not  suitable for using in the presence of flammable anesthetics. Considering the limits to electromagnetic disturbance, Sonopulse 1.0 MHz and 3.0 MHz is an electromedical equipment that belongs to Group 1 Class A.
